![]() ![]() ![]() Having a low operating cost is something that we can all appreciate. This translates to maximum efficiency and minimal energy usage. ![]() One of the things about this filter that we like is that the water stays in contact with the filter for quite some time. The whole filter is fairly solid and is definitely not going to leak, but when you need to get to the inside of it, it can easily open for quick maintenance. It really does not get any easier than that. ![]() On that same note, simply place the AquaClear Power Filter on the rim of your aquarium and tighten the clamps for mounting. Having them hang on the rim of the aquarium means that the inside of the tank is reserved for fish and plants instead of a filtration unit. Sure, other filters work fine, but hang on back filters are always very space-friendly. The fact that this is a hang-on-back filter is something that we always like. This means that when you turn the flow rate down, this filter works even harder to clean the water it is taking in. However, the really cool part here is the re-filtration system. The flow rate of this filter is adjustable, which is always nice. What is really impressive about this particular aquarium filter is that it can process the entire contents of a 20-gallon tank up to seven times per hour, or in other words, it can process 140 gallons of water per hour.įor such a small filter, this is very impressive no doubt. In fact, this particular model can be used for any tank from 5 gallons to 20 gallons. This filter is definitely more than ideal for a 20-gallon tank. It might not be the biggest filter, but it works well, is easy to maintain, and easy to mount as well. The fact that you can simply clip this filter right onto the back of your aquarium is really convenient no doubt. Having an effective filter that doesn’t take up too much space is something that we always look out for. Simply put, it does not require shelf space and it barely takes up room inside of the aquarium. The Fluval C Power Filter is a hang on the back filter, something we can always appreciate. In other words, turning down the flow rate does not mean that less filtration is happening with the Fluval C Power Filter. The really cool part here is that the trickle filter included in the mix works to filter the water much better when the flow rate is turned down. At the same time, the filter flow rate is totally adjustable, which is nice if you have fish that don’t like strong currents. In other words, if you have a 20-gallon tank, this filter can clean all of the water in it up to 6 times per hour, or close to that anyway. It can easily handle up to 119 gallons per hour. The Fluval C Power Filter is more than ideal for any 20 gallon aquarium. The filter cartridges are fairly easy to replace, which is always nice, plus the filter tells you when the foam pads need to be washed too. In other words, you will hard pressed to find a filter that gets rid of more water impurities than this one. The first two stages engage in mechanical filtration, the third stage is a chemical filter, and the last two stages are biological in nature. However, the number one reason is because it engages in 5-stage filtration, something which not many other filters do. Our personal opinion is that this is probably the best 20 gallon aquarium filter out there at this time (you can check the current price at Amazon here). ![]()

![]() Screening for trisomy 21 by cfDNA in twin pregnancies can be performed, but total number of reported cases is small. cfDNA analysis can be performed as early as 9 to 10 weeks’ gestation depending on the laboratory, and a high-risk result from cfDNA would require confirmation by diagnostic testing with chorionic villus sampling (CVS) or amniocentesis. Not hard like a storm, but just a little bit like what mom called “showers”. But it all started with the transistor radio way back in 1954.I woke up and I could hear the rain tapping on the window by my bed. While radio may be less significant these days, the concept of a small handheld device that provides access to music and ideas is more popular than ever in the form of today’s smartphone. The Boombox, the Discman, and the iPod arrived over the following decades, replacing the transistor radio and, further, eroding broadcast radio’s status as the most important way to reach the masses with music and ideas. The transistor radio began to decline in popularity in the late 1970s as the cassette and the Walkman took over. In providing this avenue for artistic expression and the dissemination of new ideas, the transistor radio played a significant role in many of the musical and cultural movements of the 1950s and 1960s. For the first time, young people had the freedom to listen to music and world news amongst themselves without the threat of parental disapproval. The transistor radio wasn’t just a revolutionary piece of technology – it also revolutionized music and youth culture. Many models even had a single plug-in earphone for private listening, not unlike the headphones used with later devices such as the Walkman and the iPod. In addition to lower prices, the first half of the decade also saw the addition of FM capabilities to the previously AM-only transistor radio. These Japanese models brought prices down significantly, and by the 1960s, transistor radios cost around $15 (about $117 today), making them affordable birthday and Christmas presents during the prosperous 1960s. Sony’s TR-55 and TR-63 were particularly notable, but Sharp and Toshiba also sold transistor radios. Shortly after the TR-1 went out of production, Japanese manufacturers began selling cheaper and smaller transistor radios to the American public. Image source: Stocksy United New Models & Further Improvements Instead of a family affair, teenagers began listening to the radio alone or with groups of friends. It was also highly portable and changed the way that Americans enjoyed radio. In contrast to these older models, the TR-1 was small and much less easy to break. In most cases, families would huddle around a single large wooden radio in their home and listen to programs together. Because these radios used breakable vacuum tubes, they were also very delicate. Previous models were large and mostly stationary. ![]() Signaling a Changeĭespite its short life, the TR-1 changed the face of consumer radio forever. Around 150,000 units were sold, but the TR-1 wasn’t produced for very long. However, it was quite expensive – the TR-1 retailed for around $50, which translates to nearly $400 today. It was able to receive AM radio stations and had an impressive 20-hour lifespan due to its 22.5v battery. It was easily portable, measuring just five inches high, and used four transistors. It featured a gold dial and was available in a variety of colors. On October 18, 1954, they released the Regency TR-1 just in time for the Christmas shopping season. Texas Instruments built the transistors and the Regency division of I.D.E.A. (Industrial Development Engineering Associates) and Texas Instruments.
